Throughout the vegetation period, plants are exposed to a number of abiotic stress factors that affect plant growth, development and yield. The purpose of the study is to determine the response of cotton variety Porloq-4 to salinization by chloride (100 mM, 150 mM, 200 mM) and sulfate (1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%) based on proline and salicylic acid accumulation (exposure to different concentrations of saline solutions was carried out at the seedling stage under laboratory conditions). The ratio of proline accumulation between varieties differed by 1.54-fold (in the control variant), 1.47-fold, 1.76-fold and 1.18-fold (at conditionally weak, medium and strong NaCl concentrations, respectively). Na2SO4 solutions induced a higher ratio of proline accumulation in tissues of Porloq-4 than Coker-312 by 1.84 (with the conditionally weak Na2SO4 solution variant), by 1.18 (with the medium solution variant) and by 1.2 (with the strong Na2SO4 solution concentration). For salicylic acid, the difference in accumulation was 1.08 higher (in the control) than for Coker-312, by 0.93 (at 100 mM NaCl), by 1.01 (at 150 mM NaCl) and by 1.31 (at 200 mM NaCl). Also, between varieties, the ratio of salicylate accumulation exceeded 1.16-fold in the control variant, 1.19-fold, 1.04-fold and 1.03-fold in the experimental variants when the stressor concentration increased.
Keywords: proline, salicylic acid, tolerance, abiotic stress, salinization, NaCl, Na2SO4.
