Pipeline systems in agriculture are complex engineering structures comprising numerous components operating as a single system with a reliable and uninterrupted water supply. Pipeline valves, including shut-off and control valves, play a key role in managing water flow in pipeline systems.
Failure in the design of the pipeline system and in choosing the appropriate shut-off and control valves subsequently can lead to deviations in their operating characteristics, to the decrease in energy efficiency of the hydraulic system as a whole, and even to interruptions in water supply.
The most common mistake when selecting shut-off valves is to focus only on the nominal diameter of the pipeline or the hydraulic resistance coefficient.
Current article deals with the selection methodology the appropriate shut-off valves by the value of the flow coefficient, which is the main parameter for selecting valves for engineering systems, regulated by GOST (State Standard) and the international IEC standard.
The capacity of shut-off valves is determined by numerical modeling using the Solidworks Flow Simulation software. The research results showed that, by selecting energy-efficient shut-off and control pipeline valves, it was possible to provide high energy efficiency of hydraulic systems even at the design stage.
